The 50th anniversary of the founding of BMW M GmbH. The BMW logo with offset semicircles in blue, violet and red was first used in 1973 on the racing cars of BMW Motorsport GmbH.
The legendary BMW M1 from 1978 was the only high-performance production BMW M vehicle that, in addition to the tricolor stripe logo, bore the historic motorsport emblem. In both logos, blue represents BMW, while red symbolizes racing and purple expresses the connection between the two. Since then, violet has given way to dark blue.
The green of the Isle of Man has an interesting history. "We started with the four-door E36 M3," recalled Marcus Syring, Head of BMW M Design. "On the one hand, green is a conservative color. But on the other hand, green means Great Britain because of the sports motor. Isle of Man Green is also full of life; being very active when you see it in the sun.
